Diet, Exercise, Obesity, Diabetes, and Foot Health
There is no controversy in the statement that excessive weight, poor diet, and little exercise lead to a range of serious health conditions.
Your feet can be impacted by these conditions as well. Obesity and excessive weight can contribute to arch fatigue, heel pain, general joint pain (arthritis), and corns and calluses.
More important, obesity may cause serious conditions like diabetes or high cholesterol. These can lead to vascular compromise, foot sores, and amputation. For more information on diabetes and foot and skin health, please read the following free booklets from the National Institutes of Health and available here in PDF format:
Please also visit the Diabetes Health Center below.
Poor nutrition (along with other conditions like alcoholism) also causes deficiencies of critical vitamins like B12. A clear link has been established between B12 deficiencies and peripheral neuropathy in the toes and other extemities. Please visit the website for the Jack Miller Center for Peripheral Neuropathy at the University of Chicago for more detailed information on the link between diet and peripheral neuropathy. Please visit FootcareZone's affiliate store Vitacost.com for B12 and other nutritional supplements that may help with neuropathy, joint pain, and other conditions.
Poor diet and lack of exercise are the leading causes of obesity and nutritional deficiencies in America. A doctor recommended exercise and diet regime is critical to combat these dangerous conditions. You should consult with your poditatrist, medical doctor, and nutritionist for the plan that is right for you. For more information, read these free brochures from the NIDDK and available here in PDF format:
